EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Congressman Elijah Cummings Comments on the Need to Confront Issues Affecting People of Color

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congressman Elijah E. Cummings, Co-Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc.’s 40th Annual Legislative Conference, spoke exclusively to Ib’s Blog about the significance of people coming together to address pertinent issues affecting human development.

“It’s very important that we bring African American people together to talk about the issues that are confronting African Americans and people of color all over the world,” Cummings said.

“And so we come [to the Annual Legislative Conference] trying to find solutions to the problems and trying to address them as best as we can.”

Cummings played a key role at the Annual Prayer Breakfast, and also moderated the “The Faith Leaders Roundtable” session, discussing “Faith Institution’s Foreclosure & Access to Capital”.

“It is important that they understand,” Cummings said. 

“For example, we just came out of a church event where we had pastors from many churches.

“They need to know what government policies are available for their parishioners so that they might be effectively addressed—the issues that their parishioners are confronted with everyday,” Cummings said.
