Jackson Lee was a participant at the conference and also sat on the “The Faith Leaders Roundtable” session discussing “Faith Institution’s Foreclosure & Access to Capital”, which was moderated by Co-chair of the 40th Annual Legislative Conference, Congressman Elijah E. Cummings.

“Let me be very clear that this is a place of inspiration, this is a place of insight and intellect, and it is also a place of action,” Jackson Lee told Ib’s Blog in an exclusive interview.

“The Congressional Black Caucus [Foundation] legislative weekend is a gathering of thousands to really be informed, to be armored to go out and fight the obstacles of foreclosure, faulty criminal justice system and bad education system.”

Jackson Lee said the conference is also seen as a place “to empower our people and to recognize that America is for all people, welcoming those who come for better opportunities and welcoming those who are already here.”

Jackson Lee added that it is also a place to fix things up for people who are suffering.

“When you come to the Congressional Black Caucus [Foundation’s Annual Legislative Conference], you hear about the suffering but you also get the tools to be able to work with them.

“You come ready to learn and you go out ready to fight for those who cannot fight for themselves.

“So this is an exciting time with brilliant people who have come, who love America and are honorable people, ready to work and serve and make America great,” Jackson Lee said.
