“Success” may indeed best describe the results of their events. Success in the City (SITC), on Dec. 2, 2009, kicked off the Holiday Season by hosting one of the hottest networking events of the year at the Marriot Fairfax Park, Virginia, and IB’s Blog was there.

The “Mix and Mingle” was well suited so that the high-profile “guests can enjoy nibbling, sipping, schmoozing and even a bit of shopping.” What’s more than networking in a Ball Room where more than 90 percent of the guests are women? Ib truly liked the idea 🙂

There were local DC entrepreneurs with assorted collections of purses, clothing, jackets, fashion accessories and Jewelry, including Stella & Dot (www.stelladot.com/boutiquemix)  and Boutique Mix among others.   Most women who love to shop know what I mean – It was a holiday shopping haven.

With good music adding more value to the setting, there was also good food (of course, my favorite part of the night), drinks, and raffle draws. Guests had an opportunity to experiment building a valuable network using a cutting edge emerging technology with MingleStick.

Cynthia de Lorenzi, CEO (and founder) of the SITC told Ib’s Blog in an exclusive interview that after relocating to Washington, D.C. from Dallas, Texas, following the death of her brother, she began to miss the friendship and personal support system of other successful women like those she enjoyed in Texas.

Hosting a successful networking event on the East Coast in 2004 paved way to the birth of a new organization.

“I hosted a one-time networking bash to meet some new friends and from that fun and unique first gathering Success in the City was born!” said Ms. de Lorenzi, who is also CEO (and co-founder) of Pink Collar Ink.

“Meant merely as a fun Texas-style party to say goodbye to the successful ‘Sex in the City’ cable network show, the party attendees insisted that we arrange for this type of fun again and again,” she said.

SITC is a member organization for women of distinction and achievement, and provides a forum to which they share their stories, insight and wisdom on their journey to success.  Its members are women entrepreneurs, senior-level executives and CEOs based in the DC metro area.

“We are an event-driven organization which offers friendship, fun and social opportunities for professional women to congregate and get to know each other. We believe that once friendships are formed, deals-on-heels are sure to follow,” said De Lorenzi, who was selected by the Washington Business Journal as one of the top 25 “Women Who Mean Business” in 2006, and this year recognized by SmartCEO Magazine for the 2009 Brava Award.

“We often us the term ‘diva’ which derives from the Italian word for goddess or fine lady.  It describes women of rare, outstanding talent. We adopted the term to describe the type of women she wanted to attract to her unconventional women’s networking organization,” De Lorenzi said.

Kirsti Mowinski, said attending SITC’s events is always fun and she has got to know a lot of the members too. “The SITC event is very dear to me,” Mowinski told Ib’s Blog.
